Shreenathji Temple,Nathdwara

Shreenathji Temple is also known as ‘Haveli of Shreenathji’. The Shreenathji of Nathdwara is situated at a distance of 48km in the north-east of Udaipur.Nathdwara is a small town in the Indian state of Rajasthan. This place is sited on the right bank of Banas River. This temple is built in 17th century and it is dedicated to the Lord Krishna.The image of the Lord Krishna is carved out of a single block of black marble. The temple is set amidst idyllic hills, it is known to be the second richest temple in the world.

The royal kings of Udaipur pray at the temple and as the head of his clan, the Maharana is also called as Shriji among his people. Behind the establishment of this temple there is long story. According to the legend, the image of Lord Shrinath ji was preserve in Vrindavan but to protect the idol from the destructive rage of Aurangzeb.
In 1672, Rana Raj Singh was the only gallant, who made an effort to rescue the idol from the domain of Aurangzeb. It is said that when the image was being shifted to an impervious place then at a particular place, the wheel of vehicle sank deep down in mud. The image refused to move further, so the escorting priest apprehended that this was Lord's chosen spot. Thus the temple was built on the same spot. The town Nathdwara is not only famous for Shreenathji Temple but also famous for it ‘Pichhwai’paintings, ivory articles and mouth-watering sweet. The best time to visit the Shreenajthji Temple is during the festivities of Holi, Diwali and Janmashtami, where devotees throng in large numbers. Annakutta is a major festival which is celebrated in the temple with full gusto and sincerity.

The nearest airport is Dabok Airport which is 52 km away from Udaipur. Udaipur is well connected with Delhi, Jaipur, Jodhpur and Mumbai.

Western Railways connects the Mavli Junction on the meter gauge with direct trains from Delhi, Jaipur, Ajmer, Ahmedabad, Jodhpur and Khandwa. Mavli Junction is 38 km and Chittorgarh is 110 Km.

The State Government and Deluxe buses are well connected with Nathdwara. By road the buses are available from all major tourist stations of Rajasthan and also with the city bus station which is 1.5km away. Nathdwara is 48km away from Udaipur in Rajasthan.
