Ranthambore National Park,Sawai Madhopur

The Ranthambore National Park is situated in the Sawai Madhopur district in Rajasthan. It was originally established as the Sawai Madhopur Game Sanctuary in the year 1955 by the Indian Government and after that it was brought under the Project Tiger Scheme in the year 1973. In 1980 it was declared as a National Park. This National Park is one of the largest and most important national parks in the country. The adjacent forests of the sanctuary were declared as the Sawai Man Singh Sanctuary and Keladevi Sanctuary. In 1991, the Tiger Reserve was expanded by merging the nearby sanctuaries, and thus the Ranthambore National Park was formed. The park is situated on a plateau and it is surrounded by the rivers Chambal and Banas on the either side. The famous Ranthambore Fortis situated within the limits of the Ranthambore National Park.

There were 26 tiger in the sanctuary in the year 2005 and then it has been increased to 34 in 2008. In order to secure the region, the authorities are giving incentives to the villagers to keep off limits. Surveillance cameras have also been installed in the park to monitor the animals. In the national parks there are large number of species including cheetahs, sloth bears, hyenas, sambars, wild boars, nilgai, leopards and tigers.

The entry in this National Parks is starting from 7a.m to 6p.m. The best time to visit the park is in the month of November and May as you can get an opportunity to see the amazing animal in their natural habitat.


Ranthambore National Park is well-connected with all the major cities in India.

The nearest airport is Sanganer Airport in Jaipur. The distance between Jaipur and Ranthambore is about 180km. Regular flights are available for Jaipur from all the major cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai etc.

The nearest railway station is the Sawai Madhopur station which is located at a distance of 10km from the park. The tourist can reach park by local bus, cab and taxi.

Ranthambore is well-connected with all the major cities and town through state bus service and it can be reached through private buses and taxis.
