Ossian Temples

Ossian is located at the edge of the Thar Desert which is 65km away from north-west of Jodhpur in Rajasthan. The city of Ossian is famous for its architectural templesof earlier medieval age. The city of Ossianwas been founded by Utpaladeva, who was a Rajput Prince belonging to Pratihara Dynasty in 10th century. Earlier the city Ossian was called as Ukesha or Upkeshapur. The main attractions of this city are its temples. They are beautifully designed and constructed. There are number of temples in this cityamongst these temples, Surya (Sun) Temple, Harihara Temple, Sachiya Mata Temple and a Jain temple dedicated to Lord Mahavira. Surya temples: The Ossian Surya temple is located near Jodhpur. It was built on 10th century. This temple is dedicated to Sun God( Suryadevta). Inside this temple there is a sculpture of the Ganesh ji and Durga Mata.

There is also a open mandap in this temple Harihara Temple: In the city Ossian there three Ossian Harihara temple near Jodhpur. The first two of the Harihara Ossian Temple was built in 8th century and third one was built on 9th century. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu.

Jain Temple: In Jodhpur there are approximately 15 Ossian Jain temples. The most famous Jain Ossian temple in Rajasthan is the Mahavira temple. This temple is dedicated to the last 24th Jain Prophet. The entrance of the temple has the carving of beautiful maidens on it. The roof is also beautifully decorated. The terrace on which the temple stands is built up of sandstone.

The Sachiya Mata Temple
The Ossian Sachiya Mata temple was built in the 8th century. It is located near Jodhpur. The Sachiya Mata Osiyan Temple is dedicated to Sachi Mata. Sachi Mata is also known as Indrani, was the consort of the rain-god Indra. The main temple along with the other two temples named the Chandi Ka Mandir and the Amba Mata Mandir, was constructed in the year 1178.

Pippala Devi Temple
The Pippala Devi Temple is located near Jodhpur. It was built in 9th century. It is one of the minor temple than the other temples in Ossian. This temple has the open air mandap that stretched out the balconies.

Shiv Mandir
This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is known for its beautiful carved pillars. The temples walls have a number of painting depicting Lord Shiva in various yogic postures.

Vishnu temple
The Vishnu temple was built in the later half of the 9th century. This temple can be found near Jodhpur. It is famous for the wonderful carved and columned mandap.
