Kumbhalgarh fort is second important fort in Rajasthan. It is located at the distance of 64kms in north-west of Udaipur, in Rajasmand district. It was built by Maharana Kumbha in 15 century and it was enlarged throughout the 19th century. It was also the birthplace of Maharana Pratap. The fort is built 1100 metersabove sea level and is situated 82 kilometres northwest from the city of Udaipur. The perimeter of the wall that surrounds the fort extends to 36 kilometres and is 15 -25feet thick making it after the Great Wall of China.
The fort contains over 360temples within its walls. It was occupied by the Sisodiya Rajput family till the late 19th century and is now open to public as a tourist attraction. The main buildings inside this magnificent fortress are Badal Mahal, Kumbha Palace and Jain Temples, baoris, chhattris etc. The Kumbhalgarh Fort is well-known for its fortress that reside on the height of its erection. This fantastic palace is referred as “Badal Mahal” or the “Palace of Cloud”. The Cloud Palace also bestows an implausible panoramic view of the city’s business district. There is a light and sound show every evening between 7:30 and 8:00PM at this fort. The best time to visit Kumbhalgarh Fort at the month of October to March.
