Khimsar is part of the Nagaur District that lies between Jodhpur and Bikaner. The Khimsar Fort was constructed by Rao Karamsiji, the 8th son of Rao Jodha, the founder of Jodhpur. The construction on the fort began in 1523. Later adages to the fort included a zenana wing and a private regal wing built by Thakur Onkar Singh for himself. A part of the fort still forms the residence of the royal family of Khimsar. This 16th century fort is still home to the royal family of Khimsar which has been beautifully converted into a heritage hotel with style and modern amenities. Khimsar Fort - borders the stark and arid Thar Desert, as you are cocooned within the ramparts of this oasis of comfort with its 11 acres of lush lawns under the canopy of bright clear skies by day and brilliant unending stars by night.
It was for good cause that it was awarded the 'Grand Heritage Award for Excellence' by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. Open spaces, courtyards surrounding the rooms, stone carved exteriors, windows and arches are characteristic of this fort.
